Sheffield Hallam has run a very successful Pop Maths Quiz for the last few years, have a look at their website to see what it's all about: http://maths.sci.shu.ac.uk/popmaths.
Followed by a free popular lecture
'Taking Maths from the Classroom to the Real World'
1.30pm - 2.30pm
Dr Martyn Parker
Mathematics is often viewed as a subject that has little to do with the real world. In fact, the exact opposite is true; mathematics has more to say about our everyday lives than we could possibly imagine. In this talk we will explore how maths can help us understand a number of real-world problems and situations that would otherwise seem quite mysterious.
This lecture is aimed at Children age 11 upwards, but the whole family is welcome, including the general public.
No tickets are needed, but please indicate on your booking form how many places you intend to fill.
If you are only coming to the lecture then please e-mail Hazel Kendrick h.j.kendrick[at]leeds.ac.uk specifying how many people you are bringing.
People will be admitted on a first come first served basis.
Both activities are being jointly organised by the More Maths Grads Project and the Further Maths Network.
