Heads of Departments of Mathematical Sciences in the UK (HODOMS)
HoDoMS is committed to advancing educational opportunities in the Mathematical Sciences, and to ensuring the academic well-being of the disciplines of Mathematics, Statistics and Operational Research, as they are taught and developed within Higher Education. In particular, HoDoMS acts as a forum in Higher Education where matters affecting teaching, learning, and the pursuit of research and scholarship within Departments of Mathematical Sciences can be aired, and where the considered views of Heads on such matters can be expressed. HoDoMS works with learned societies and professional bodies to make its views known to government and funding agencies. In addition, HoDoMS works closely with those representing the interests of schools, FE, employers and professions to ensure that the overall provision of learning opportunities on offer within HE, in the Mathematical Sciences area, is in tune with the wider needs of society and the specific needs of the underpinning disciplines.

Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE)
The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) distributes public money for teaching and research to universities and colleges. In doing so, it aims to promote high quality education and research, within a financially healthy sector. The Council also plays a key role in ensuring accountability and promoting good practice.

Higher Education Academy – Mathematics, Statistics and Operational Research Network (MSOR)
The Maths, Stats & OR Network is one of the 24 Subject Centres that constitute the Subject Network of the Higher Education Academy. Originally formed in 2000 as part of the Learning and Teaching Support Network (LTSN), it made the transition into the HE Academy in October 2004. The aims of the Network are directly linked to the strategic aims of the HE Academy, which is to help institutions, discipline groups and all staff to provide the best possible learning experience for their students. This is summarised in the Network mission statement, which is “to promote high standards in the learning and teaching of Mathematics, Statistics and Operational Research by encouraging staff development, knowledge exchange, innovation and enterprise, leading to an enhancement of the learning experience for students, from school through university to the workplace.

Institute of Mathematics and Its Applications (IMA)
The Institute of Mathematics and its Applications is the professional and learned society for qualified and practising mathematicians. Its mission is to promote mathematics in industry, business, the public sector, education and research. Founded in 1964, the Institute now has 5500 members. Ten percent of members live outside the United Kingdom. Forty percent of members are employed in education (schools through to universities), and the other 60% work in commercial and governmental organisations. In 1990 the Institute was incorporated by Royal Charter and was subsequently granted the right to award chartered mathematician status.

London Mathematical Society (LMS)
The London Mathematical Society was founded in 1865 for the promotion and extension of all branches of mathematics and its applications. It is an independent and self-financing charity, with a membership of over 2600 drawn from all parts of the UK and overseas. Its principal activities are the organisation of meetings and conferences, the publication of periodicals and books, the provision of financial support for mathematical activities, and the contribution to public debates on issues related to mathematics research and education. It works collaboratively with other mathematical bodies worldwide. It is the UK adhering body to the International Mathematical Union.

Royal Statistical Society (RSS)
The Royal Statistical Society, founded in 1834, is one of the UK's oldest  learned and professional societies, with some 7200 members based in the United Kingdom and overseas. The purpose of the Royal Statistical Society is to develop, foster and disseminate statistical knowledge, methodology and good practice for the benefit of all society. As such it acts as valuable resource for consultation and analysis, recently on such issues as National Statistics, Risk, Performance Monitoring , the Research Assessment Exercise and, through the Sally Clark case, the use of statistical evidence in court cases. It publishes the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society and awards professional qualification of Chartered Statistician (CStat) to those who meet its stringent criteria for academic achievement and professional experience in statistics. It also organises an annual conference and over 150 meetings nationwide each year.
