Increasing the Supply of Mathematical Sciences Graduates

a HEFCE-funded project directed by

Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA)

Royal Statistical Society (RSS)

Higher Education Academy – Mathematics, Statistics & Operational Research Network (MSOR)

It is important, in a technological and knowledge-based economy such as the UK’s, to increase the numbers of students taking mathematical sciences courses (i.e. mathematics and statistics) and mathematics related courses (such as engineering, physics, etc.) in higher education.

This project aims to identify and expand activity to address the recruitment of students, particularly to articulate with school and FE provision and to reach potential work-based learners. It will produce, by February 2006, a fully costed proposal for a strategy to improve the uptake of mathematical sciences and mathematics related courses in higher education.
